There is a spring in the step of the Auction team today following the very successful general sale yesterday!
Almost 90% of the lots sold. The saleroom was packed with bidders – a pleasing mixture of regular buyers and new faces.
Of course, there were enquiries to deal with before the sale, and photographs to be taken and emailed to potential buyers. In addition to the full catalogue being published on the website, it’s also sent to lotzone.co.uk, a website which sends email alerts to members when something they want appears in the catalogue!
The seventeen lots of modern light oak furniture together sold for just over £2,800.
The Royal Doulton figure ‘Flower Sellers Children’ made £100, and a selection of Tiffany style lamps and shades fetched £190.
But the star of the show was a dressing table hand mirror set with stones and a selection of oriental figures which sold for £800. There was even an impromptu round of the applause when the hammer fell!
But the sound this morning is that of the Potburys Removals lorries revving up to make the auction deliveries.
There was a helpful reminder that things don’t necessarily have to be exotic and unusual to encourage bids – a pair of lined curtains with single curtain and pelmet sold for £105.
And what we can be fairly certain was the oldest lot in the sale – a fossil ammonite – sold for £48.
Looking ahead, we are already bringing in and unpacking items for the next sale on 24 May. And Michael Willey and Philip Hurst are preparing for the jewellery, coin and silver valuation morning next Wednesday, 18 May. This will be taking place at Potburys Shop in Sidmouth High Street between 10am – 12pm. These events are always well attended so it is vital to telephone and make an appointment. So if you think you have any family treasures please give the team a call on 01395 517300, we’d be delighted to hear from you!
